Kummattikkali is a cover dance famous in a portion of the northern areas of Kerala. The artists, wearing painted wooden veils and brandishing twigs of leaves and grass, go out from one house to another. A famous Kummatti character is Thalla or the witch; the others address different Hindu divine beings and goddesses. The tunes manage reverential subjects and are joined by a bow like instrument called Ona-villu. No proper preparing is needed to play out the Kummattikkali, and regularly the observers participate in the presentation.
